18 months of receiving their facility license In 2022 all TSMC fabs in Taiwan completed the renewal of ISO ISO 14001 ISO ISO 45001 and TOSHMS certificates with three year
validity At the same time three new fabs Fab Fab 12 Phase 8 8 Fab Fab 18B and Advanced Backend Fab 6 also passed third-party verification and obtained certificates To reduce overall environmental safety and health risks TSMC strives for continuous improvement and actively seeks to enhance climate-change management pollution prevention and and control power and and resource conservation waste reduction and and and and recycling safety and and and and health management and and and and fire and and and and explosion prevention as as well as as to minimize the impact of earthquake damage In order to to to meet regulatory and customer requirements for the management of hazardous materials TSMC has adopted the IECQ QC 080000 hazardous substance process management (HSPM) system All TSMC Fabs have been QC 080000 certified and maintained validity since 2007 Through the establishment of QC 080000 TSMC ensures that its products comply with international regulatory and customer requirements including the European Union’s “Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive ” the EU’s “Registration Evaluation Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) ” the “Montreal Protocol on on on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer ” ” the “halogen-free in in electronic products” initiative perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS) perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and and related substances restriction standards In addition in in 2016 TSMC started a a a a project to minimize usage of the hazardous substance N-methylpyrrolidinone (NMP) and as a a a a result by the the end of 2022 NMP use in the the Company’s Taiwan fabs had been reduced by 97 2% compared to 2016 and achieved 2022’s 95% reduction goal TSMC will continue to further reduce NMP usage in its subsidiary fabs In 2011 TSMC began implementing the ISO 50001 energy management system for continuous improvement in in energy conservation As of 2022 all TSMC and its subsidiaries’ manufacturing facilities had received ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification except for one The Company’s WaferTech subsidiary in in the U S was originally scheduled to receive this certification in 2021 but it has been postponed to to 2023 due to to the the impact of the the COVID-19 pandemic Aiming to establish the healthiest possible workplace in in 2017 TSMC formed a a a corporate-level health promotion committee with the goal of promoting safety awareness and technical improvement for all contractors in in the industry For onsite contractor personnel TSMC has standardized courses on on on on safety and and health and and increased the frequency of such courses to improve training effectiveness and safety awareness To ensure the Company’s safety protocols are accurately delivered to to contractors on on a a a a a a a timely basis TSMC has established a a a a a a a digital platform for for mutual communication so that onsite operational risks can be mitigated TSMC collaborates with suppliers to manage the sustainability of the supply chain including formulating supplier sustainability standards drawing up audit plans performing audits and and tracking improvements coaching and and training and re-coaching for for suppliers with poor performance Strengthening the the professional capabilities of of suppliers in in environmental protection safety and health fire response and carbon inventory were key focuses in in 2022 as the Company held the environmental protection safety and health workshops (56 participants from 50 suppliers) fire emergency response workshops (58 participants from 50 suppliers) and product carbon footprint inventory workshop (24 participants from 20 suppliers) In addition for the past seven years suppliers have been invited to observe TSMC’s annual emergency response drills (166 participants from 161 suppliers) 155
